New Dynasty Warriors Title Set to Hop the Pond

After a very successful run in Japan, Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires is making it stateside
Published: April 5, 2004
Koei's latest semi-sequel to it's wildly popular tactical action series gets a release date in the U.S. Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires is a follow up to last fall's other Dynasty Warriors semi-sequel; Dynasty Warriors 4: Xtreme Legends, not quite a full on sequel and a little more than a mere expansion pack, these bundles by Koei offer new features and modes that change the gameplay in such ways that the phrase; semi-sequel becomes very apt.

Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires will keep the same 40-plus characters found in the original game, but now will incorporate new features such as the new strategy-implementation mode, a character-editing tool and a one-on-one fighting mode.

"Selling nearly 7 million units worldwide, the Dynasty Warriors franchise has embodied the state-of-the-art for action games," remarked Koei's Amos Ip, Koei's vice president of sales and marketing. "Building on the successful Dynasty Warriors 4, this game will offer new twists on the Tactical Action genre. We are certainly looking forward to the game's formal North American introduction at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo."

Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires is slated for a September release at the suggested retail price of $29.99. With the prospect of Koei's Samurai Warriors and this up and coming bonus pack, there's no doubt that we'll be spending a lot of time in old-world Asia in the coming months. Keep it here for more and stay tuned for live E3 coverage from the show.
