Acclaim Entertainment officially announced today that it will be publishing a new PlayStation 2 title this year, entitled Burnout. The game, once known as Shiny Red Car (SRC), has been in development by U.K. based Criterion Games over the past 18 months.
Burnout places the player in an intense car racing showdown, taking place on major highways and densely populated city streets. The game implements obstacles and checkpoints for each track, along with an intelligent traffic system in each environment. 16 courses will be included in all, with more than 300 different vehicles which players can interact with.
The game will also incorporate real time vehicular crashes, along with split screen multiplayer modes. Even Stein, Vice-President of Brand stated the following today:
[blockquote] Criterion possesses the technologies to harness the power of the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system and deliver an immersive driving game that is poised to take the genre to a new level. With its high-speed action and dramatic crash sequences, Burnout(TM) will be a `must have' this holiday season for racing game enthusiasts."[/blockquote]Burnout is currently scheduled for release on the PlayStation 2 this November.
