L.T. Joins The League
Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor is the new face of Midway's newest Blitz game.

Lawrence Taylor has managed to milk his illustrious football career well past his time in the NFL. Aside from starring in Any Given Sunday and appearing in numerous football-related specials, he managed to land a prominent role in GTA: Vice City and showed he wasn't afraid to poke a little fun at his notorious off-field antics.
Perhaps it's all the more fitting, then, that he was selected as both the cover athlete and picked to voice Quentin Sands, the main character in the upcoming Blitz: The League, Midway's latest NFL-less entry into the Blitz franchise. See, like so many other games (the recently cancelled Road to Sunday comes to mind), movies and TV series as of late, The League focuses on the stuff that happens between games as it does on the stuff happening on the field.
The game's evolving storyline mixes on- and off-field antics in a compelling and ever-expanding story focusing on Sands' choices throughout the season. To help lend a bit of authenticity and recruit someone with a bit of familiarity with the subject, Midway hired on former Playmakers scribe Peter Egan. Given that ESPN's TV show focused on the lives and choices NFL players had to make while balancing team and ego, Egan's year-plus investment in the next Blitz game could end up bearing plenty of fruit.
"Lawrence Taylor (known by many as 'L.T.') was in the professional football spotlight throughout his illustrious NFL career, and we’re extremely excited to have someone of his stature and popularity working with us on the next generation of Blitz," gushed Midway CMO Steve Allison. "Mr. Taylor succeeded in establishing a new standard by which all future linebackers would be critiqued in his sport and we feel strongly that Blitz: The League will accomplish a similar goal in the sports gaming genre. No longer bound by league censorship, we intend to bring fans the most intense and hard-hitting football experience yet and we’re confident that fans will be tremendously pleased with the football alternative that we’re providing."
The lack of "league censorship" apparently means more than just throwing in a couple of four letter words into the cutscenes and in-game player chatter. Teaming up with FHM, the cheerleaders in the game will be played by 11 real-life ladies that'll be more than just sideline eye candy. Midway gave them roles in the storyline... and had them serve as sideline eye candy.
With all the time and cash funneled into Midway's classically me-too football effort, things are looking more and more well-rounded the more we hear about it. Rest assured that we'll be sure to pass along the next big announcement for the game as soon as we get it.
