Atari Unveils Kya: Dark Lineage

And it's PS2-exclusive, which probably doesn't mean much if you don't know anything about the game. We can fix that with just a click.

Apparently, barbarian hordes are crashing Infogrames' gates for information on Kya: Dark Lineage, because according to the company's latest press release, they're "answering the demand for information behind the concealed project." It apparently was quite well concealed, as we'd heard nothing of it, but that doesn't mean the game isn't promising, just listen to what the people working on the game are saying.

"We believe that Kya: Dark Lineage is one of those rare, genre-defining products and as such have invested the necessary time and resources to successfully launch the property in the interactive entertainment arena," John Hurlbut, Senior VP of U.S. marketing and General Manager of Infogrames' Beverly studio explains. "Kya: Dark Lineage promises an engaging and magical experience whose beauty, brilliance and appeal will transcend established consumer demographics, and result in a product of global appeal."

Apparently the developers seem to agree.

"From the start, Kya has been meticulously developed from the ground up both in terms of character and story development, right down to the proprietary game engine," boasted Stéphane Baudet, CEO of Eden Studios. "Kya promises to be a game of epic magnitude and we are committed to delivering unprecedented gameplay to all fans of this genre."

Powered by that proprietary engine that promises "high-resolution models and textures, smooth-blended animation and utilizes spectacular physics," Kya will take gamers across 34 missions and side quests in the lead character of the same name's effort to find her lost brother and get back home. Along the way, she'll meet up with the Nativs, a tribe of magically-imbued people oppressed by the Wolfens, an army led by the evil-sounding Brazul. Using the Nativs' donated powers to do things like sliding down waterfalls and riding wind currents, Kya will manage to deliver a race of oppressed people from their whip-crackers all while searching for her long lost bro and her home.

Kya will be available this fall. We'll no doubt get more info at E3.
