Today it was officially confirmed by Acclaim that two racing titles would indeed be cancelled for both the PS2 and PC platforms. Yesterday, a rumor was posted all over the web in regards to Acclaim halting production of two of its future racing titles: F360 Challenge and Ferrari F1.

While there was no official word on the story by Acclaim, further speculation came and went. Now Acclaim has finally given the official word on the canning of not only these titles, but future titles under the Ferrari license. The following statement was made by Acclaim today in regards to their situation on the current racing title projects:

[blockquote]"Due to a decline in revenues brought about by the transition in the market, Acclaim has re-evaluated the investment requirement for Ferrari and made the decision to suspend future development of all titles under the Ferrari License.

"Instead, the company will continue to focus its efforts on the development of high-quality, next-generation product for PlayStation 2, XBox and Gamecube, and marketing efforts for its upcoming releases. Acclaim projects to spend in excess of $50 million in research and development in the next fiscal year."[/blockquote]This successfully counters earlier possibilities and speculation that Acclaim could be dropping out of further PS2 software production. It now seems clear that the cancellation of not just these two games, but the entire series has been completely isolated in the series and the racing genre itself, having no real relation to any specific console.
