Wait, what's this? DLC for an Activision-published game that's priced fairly and contains a legitimate and satisfying amount of new content? Yes, it's true ladies and gentleman. Today, the Transformers: War for Cybertron Map and Character Pack was made available for download on the PlayStation Network for $9.99. The pack includes five new, playable characters, as well as four new multiplayer maps.

For all you Transformers nerds (that's a compliment) who will actually be able to put faces/vehicles to the names, the new characters are Scattershot, Onslaught, Shockwave, Demolishor, and Jazz. These newcomers will be available for use within the co-op Escalation mode, and their chassis will be selectable when creating a custom Transformer for competitive multiplayer.

Two of the new maps – District and Forsaken – are reserved for Escalation mode, whereas Havok and Fortress will be available solely for competitive multiplayer uses.

Why the love? David Pokress, Head of Marketing for Activision Publishing, stated, "The fans have spoken and the response to Transformers: War for Cybertron has been colossal. Our number one goal since the launch of the game has been to support the rapidly-growing online community, and we recognize the need for these characters and maps to continue the blistering multiplayer gameplay they have come to know and love."

Activision has openly admitted that its image with in-the-know gamers is quite tarnished. Do you think $10 DLC will become the company's standard? Or, would Activision be singing a different tune if Transformers: War for Cybertron put up the same kind of numbers that Modern Warfare 2 does? Whatever the case, if you've been enjoying this game so far and plan to play into the future, it would be wise to download this excellent steal of a deal.

Update: To celebrate the release of the DLC, High Moon Studios has announced that a 2X EXP bonus will be available this weekend. The event starts Friday July 30th at 6 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (-9 GMT), ending 12 a.m. on Monday August 2nd.
