Sony's Newest Big Move... is the Move!
Move over Wii, and watch your back Natal, because Sony is now a player in the advanced motion control game!
Published: March 11, 2010
Sony's big GDC conference was yesterday, and the biggest announcement to come out of there was the true reveal of the PlayStations upcoming motion controller, previously referred to as "Motion Controller", "Wand Thingie" and "Arc". Well, bandy about those mock titles no more, because we now have an official name of PlayStation Move. While that doesn't quite have the same ring as "Arc", it does convey a better sense of just what this peripheral will do.
Our own Sam Bishop should be getting some hands on time with the Move, and he will be reporting back in his own inimitable style on just how much fun this little beauty is to interact with, but for now we can tell you that the demo video showed some tight mechanics in a ping-pong match, a weird little fighting game, and a fully motion-controlled version of the upcoming SOCOM game that was recently announced.
As for pricing, we know that the Move, a PSEye and a pack in game will run you less that $100, and there will also be Move-only bundles for those that already ha an Eye or two, as well as a full-fledged PS3 hardware plus Move and Eye bundle coming.
We also got a look at the list of developers who have already signed on to produce Move-enabled games (many already well into production!). The list includes:
Arc System Works
Irem Software Engineering
Activision Publishing
Atlus
AQ Interactive
Electronic Arts
Oxygen Games
Ongakukan
Gust
Capcom
Q Entertainment
Q Games
Crave Entertainment
Game Republic
Koei
Konami Digital Entertainment
Cyber Front
CCP
Zoo Entertainment
Square Enix
Spike
Sega
Sony Online Entertainment
THQ Inc.
Disney Interactive Studios
Tecmo
Pione
Hudson
Namco Bandai Games
Bigben Interactive
505 Games U.S.
From Software (hey, there's your Demon's Souls 2 right there)
Marvelous Enteratinment
Ubisoft
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
There are quite a few heavy hitters on there, and while the From Software appearance on that list has people talking about Demon's Souls 2, I would rather see them use it in a new King's Field myself. Also if Q Entertainment were to make a light-gun enable version of Rez for the PS3, I would plop down money for that game a third time. Just saying. It looks like a great time to be a gamer! Stay tuned for more hands on info!
