Ah, Formula One, the gentleman's race. It may not be the most popular sport here in the States, where we thrive on the spectacles of NASCAR and cockfighting, but it does have die-hard adherents in some corners of the dark continent known as Europe. It's been a few years since the last F1 title appeared on the PlayStation 3; the great Liverpudlian Formula One Championship Edition was a standout title in the early days of the system's life.

Now, the F1 license is in the hands of Codemasters, and they're working on F1 2010, which is scheduled for release this September. Codies previously released F1 2009 on the PSP, which wasn't the greatest, but we can give them the benefit of the doubt, since in the meantime they came out with the entirely awesome DiRT 2. F1 2010 shares the EGO graphics engine with DiRT, so expect impressive visuals and smooth performance.

A pair of screenshots show the game off, one of which displays a bit of nasty weather. Codemasters brags that the weather will be dynamic, which should keep drivers on their toes. Other advertised features are a "highly advanced" damage model and a wealth of multiplayer options. F1 fans should be especially happy that it will have all the official teams and tracks from the upcoming season. If you're the type to enjoy a speedy jaunt around the track, you should keep an eye on your old buddy TotalPlaystation.com for more info as it becomes available.
