Konami has officially announced Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, set to be released this fall on PlayStation 2, PSP and Wii systems.

Unlike other entries in the series, this game will feature terrifying psychological terror and frightening creatures pulled straight from the mind of a tortured demon. Oh wait, that stuff is staying the same. What is supposed to change is how the game interacts with the player.

Players will take control of a poor soul named Harry Mason who is out to find his missing daughter, Cheryl. The game will implement a psych profile that will watch and adapt to "acclimatize Harry and the people he meets, the places he visits, and the enemies he encounters to create an intense and gripping experience." What exactly this means remains to be seen. What we do know is that this is one of the few times you'll see "acclimatize" in print.

Other features will include a new interface and improved puzzles along with more fluid and realistic gameplay. Again, it's way too early to know what any of this means, but let's hope we at least get a game better than Homecoming.

Some stuff about turning your Wiimote into a flashlight and a cellphone was mentioned in the press release, but it didn't seem all that important. Just grab a flashlight and sign it on your screen, or have a buddy give you a call and make spooky noises. Who needs some fancy remote anyway?
