In a press release today, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), confirmed that the rumors flying around the internet were true. Instead of just a decreased shipment size which was reported earlier, a full out 4 week delay has been officially announced. The new European release date is November 24, with the following prices: retail for 299 English pounds, 2990 French francs, and 869 deutschmarks. Here's the statement straight from the horse's mouth

[blockquote]Chris Deering, president of SCEE, said, "PlayStation 2's performance continues to exceed even the most optimistic forecasts in Japan. This revised launch date allows us to provide increased quantities to retail day one. In fact, we will be shipping many times the number of PlayStation units when it was released in September 1995. We believe that our recommended retail price point represents great value for money for consumers offering interactive entertainment, DVD-video and future-proof technology poised to lead the broadband revolution."

Ken Kutaragi, president and CEO of SCEI, added, "SCEI has shipped it's three millionth unit of PlayStation 2 in Japan. This record-breaking strong demand allows us to look to the future with great confidence. Just as PlayStation brought interactive gaming to an unprecedented mass market, PlayStation 2's fusion of games, music and video will open the doors to new entertainment experiences in the home."[/blockquote]
We'll have more on this developing story as soon as it becomes available.
