[Gone Gold] October 9th

You're gonna be seeing this a lot over the next few weeks.
Author: Mark Tombs
Published: October 9, 2008
As we enter the busiest time of the year, the unholy juggernaut that is the 4th Quarter lineup, many games will be announced as having "gone gold," so many, in fact, that we might just get away with being extra lazy and lumping them all into a story at the end of the week.

For the uninitiated, a game going gold means it's effectively done. The final version of the code has been pressed to a master disc (back in the day it was actually gold colored, hence the name) and has been sent off to be mass produced (pending a final screening, test and approvals process from the big three, mind you). In most cases, this means the game will be hitting stores in a matter of weeks, so to keep you abreast of when things are hitting, we'll plug it in here, possibly throwing in a quote or two if a publisher is feeling especially verbose.

And now, for this week's fun:

[PlayStation 3]

[Fallout 3] | Release: Oct. 28 in N. America, Oct. 30 in Europe/Australia, Oct. 31 in UK

Scratch one off the list of most anticipated games coming out this winter. This is one of the big ones folks, so good luck wrestling your way through the hordes of fellow post apocalyptic RPG-craving nuts so you can get your filthy hands on this game. Being a sequel to one of the most highly regarded RPGs of all time and developed by Bethesda how can you go wrong? The hype train behind this game is reaching bursting point. What's so great about it then? Well where do we begin? You get your own dog for a start, isn't that enough?! You know how popular dogs are in videogames these days.

"Fallout 3 has been the biggest project we've ever undertaken," said Todd Howard, game director for Fallout 3. "It's been a long journey and we're really happy with how it turned out. We can't wait for everyone to get a chance to play it."

Fallout 3 features one of the most realized game worlds ever created. Set more than 200 years following a nuclear war, you can create any kind of character you want and explore the open wastes of Washington, D.C however you choose. Every minute is a fight for survival as you encounter Super Mutants, Ghouls, Raiders, and other dangers of the Wasteland. All you need to do now is decide which version of the game you're going to buy.

Publishers: Want to make sure we've got your games in our Gone Gold blurbs? Just kick over those press releases or a note from the team to GoneGold@TotalPlayStation.com and we'll make sure they get tossed into the rotation.
