Ever wonder what happened to Tekken 6? The game has been rocking Japanese arcades since late last year, giving salarymen the opportunity to loosen their ties, guzzle beer and dominate the latest King of Iron Fist Tournament as a giant boxing kangaroo. With the game having been released on the PlayStation 3-based System 357 arcade board, it seemed the wait for the inevitable PS3 version of the game would be short however a year later it still hasn't arrived.
Namco Bandai has now announced an updated version of the game titled Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion over at the current Tokyo Game Show. Scheduled to hit arcades before Christmas, it's been revealed that an updated version of this arcade game will be arriving on the PS3 in Fall 2009.
So what exactly is Bloodline Rebellion? It's basicly what Dark Resurrection was to Tekken 5, with even more content packed into this update. It brings new characters (Alisa Bosconovitch and Lars Alexandersson), new stages and customization options. It also gives the game a balance update for characters and items. There are also character-specific items and pieces, as well as special items that unlock "item moves" once equipped, for example, Bryan Fury uses a shotgun, Anna Williams kicks off one of her shoes and Ling Xiaoyu attacks others with a pair of mittens. For the first time in the series you will also be able to hit your opponents through walls and floors also, which will allow you to continue combos according to the Tekken Project Director, Katsuhiro Harada.
The trailer also suggests that Azazel is still the final boss of the game, however whether or not the hidden sub-boss NANCY-MI847J remains in the game is anyone's guess. We're hoping so though, just for how epic the fight appears to be from the glimpses we've seen previously. It's a relief to finally find out what exactly is happening with Tekken 6 on the PlayStation 3, although it's going to be a long wait until it's release next Fall. Judging by the promotional video though it will be worth the wait, and you always have Soul Calibur IV to keep you going.
