If Christmas for sports fans happens in August, when Madden NFL 2009, the most popular sports franchise of all time, is released, then what exactly does that make the day that THREE NBA titles are released? New Years? Your birthday, perhaps?
Regardless of the date , the arrivals of NBA '09: The Inside, NBA Live '09, and NBA 2K9 on retail shelves certainly warrant a day off to play these shiny new titles, if for no other reason than to relive the (Ahem, WORLD CHAMPION) Boston Celtics domination in the NBA Finals on three different games (As yours truly will inevitably be doing in the coming hours).
The time of year in which the NBA titles come around is always exciting for gamers; as opposed to the single-game monopoly EA has on the NFL with Madden, there are multiple developers that put out NBA games, meaning the constant competition results in games that improve by leaps-and-bounds every year. Both NBA Live and 2K9 include elements that translate real life NBA statistics and information into in-game content, with EA making it "Fresh Daily" and 2K's "Living Rosters." NBA 09: The Inside brings its "The Life" mode to the Playstation 3, a unique look at the life of ballers inside the league.
