Vicious Cycle Software, today announced that the new version of its game development engine, Vicious Engine 2 (Ve2), will be premiering in Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. Why is this important you ask? The answer is really quite simple, this announcement could change the world of gaming forever.
The recently announced title Eat Lead by D3Publisher employs all of the next-generation improvements to Ve2’s rendering and animation systems, including overhauled lighting and shader technology, advanced audio and AI, and enhanced physics and path finding. Whilst this sounds pretty standard for a new game engine i would like to remind readers that this is the engine that will be powering the Matt Hazard game, just let that sink in a little. If you thought that the Tentacle Beast of Tramm was one of the most intense boss battles in videogame history, just wait until you see that thing with path finding. If you were scared before, you should be quite frankly terrified now that the damn thing can move too.
“This generation of console hardware has the capacity to render stunning visual fidelity, not to mention realistic audio, animations and AI,” said Wayne Harvey, vice president and CTO of Vicious Cycle Software. “Thanks to the vastly improved facilities of today’s consoles, games must step up and use the power that is available to them. With Ve2, we analyzed every aspect of our product, and as a result we have developed an engine that takes advantage of these platforms’ incredible capabilities."
The engine will be widely available to developers in 2008, but the company is also currently looking for early adopters who are interested in evaluating Ve2.
