[Gone Gold] September 9th

Hacky slashy fun on the PS2 awaits.

Published: September 9, 2008
As we enter the busiest time of the year, the unholy juggernaut that is the 4th Quarter lineup, many games will be announced as having "gone gold," so many, in fact, that we might just get away with being extra lazy and lumping them all into a story at the end of the week.

For the uninitiated, a game going gold means it's effectively done. The final version of the code has been pressed to a master disc (back in the day it was actually gold colored, hence the name) and has been sent off to be mass produced (pending a final screening, test and approvals process from the big three, mind you). In most cases, this means the game will be hitting stores in a matter of weeks, so to keep you abreast of when things are hitting, we'll plug it in here, possibly throwing in a quote or two if a publisher is feeling especially verbose.

And now, for this week's fun:

[PlayStation 2]
[Warriors Orochi 2] | Release: September 23rd
Can't stand that there are 8,372,389,908,723 Warriors games pumped out by KOEI each year? Too bad, they're still gonna make 'em, people are still going to play 'em and the games are still selling -- to the tune of hundreds of thousands of copies per game. That means if you're still as geeked out by mashing Square as we are, that you'll only have to wait a few more weeks to get access to the new Dream Mode, the Versus throwback to the original game and of course a new storyline that proves you just can't keep a Demon Lord from trying to take over the world. Again.

Publishers: Want to make sure we've got your games in our Gone Gold blurbs? Just kick over those press releases or a note from the team to GoneGold@TotalPlayStation.com and we'll make sure they get tossed into the rotation.
