California Reimburses Trade Group for Over 9000 Dollars
$280 grand, to be exact.
Published: August 5, 2008
California has reimbursed the ESA to the tune of $282,794 for attorney’s fees, after court battles to fight an unconstitutional law restricting game sales. The case in question:
"On August 6, 2007, Judge Ronald M. Whyte ruled in favor of the ESA's Motion for Summary Judgment, permanently enjoining enforcement of the California video game law that regulated the sale of computer and video games in that state. Judge Whyte acknowledged that video games are protected by the First Amendment and found there was no evidence that playing violent games results in real world violence. The state currently is appealing this decision."
Good. As Michael D. Gallagher, CEO of the ESA says: “Rather than tackling real problems affecting Californians, they chose to waste time, money and state resources. It is shameful that legislators pursued personal agendas in spite of the facts.”
Spot on. Right now, as stated in the press release, California has a $15 billion deficit, state employee cuts, state WAGE cuts, and already cut 10% to the Medicaid reimbursement rates. This is kind of like when we were at war in Vietnam and congress decided to legislate on unhealthy breakfast cereals. We have bigger fish to fry, folks. Quit trying to distract us from the real problems with bullshit like violent video games and rap music and the kids with the baggy pants arr arr arr.
