Activision in the Desert
For those hungering for something to fill the off-road void.

Off-road racing is one of those things that you either get or you don't. Activision, however, hopes that you get it enough to pick up their new SCORE International Baja 1000 they've announced for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3.
Developed by Left Field Productions and set to release this Fall, SCORE International Baja 1000 is purported to feature 90 different vehicles across tons of different classes in the real Baja 1000. There's going to be trophy trucks, class I, motorcycles, ATVS, and more. You name it, it's featured. Of course, with a game about off-roading, there's going to be plenty of mud, dirt, damage, and end over end spins on your way to the finish line, with physics to match. Whether you make it there in one piece is your prerogative but it's probably a good idea to try.
"No race demands more endurance of both man and machine than the Baja 1000," said Sal Fish, President and CEO of Score International, the world's leading desert racing organization. "In consulting Activision for a video game version, we meticulously explained what's needed to capture the intensity of the Baja. They've nailed not only the look but also the elements of true desert racing."
"In creating SCORE International(R) Baja 1000(TM), our goal was to create something true to the sport that made you feel the speed and heart-pounding conditions," said Dave Oxford, Activision Publishing. "Players will see potential shortcuts on the tracks, but wonder if their vehicle can handle it. That's a conundrum every driver on the Baja 1000 faces."
Activision has been on a role lately, so it remains to be seen if SCORE International Baja 1000 is going to be the game set to knock MotorStorm fans off their feet. Until we know more, everything is just speculation. Regardless, it's going to be a good latter half of the year for off-road lovers.
