Korn Gets Hazed

Band dropping singles like their hot.

With all that money flying around from Rock Band and Guitar Hero III, bands are looking at even more ways to capitalize on the growing demand for original, contemporary music in the video game sphere. Even Korn, a band known to shun “the man” on occasion, is getting into the act but not in the way you might think. No, Korn has decided to get a little hazy with “Haze,” an original song inspired by Ubisoft's Haze. Instead of tossing the song into a music-based game, Korn is letting listeners purchase it via online music download sites.

Ubisoft's Haze is being developed by Free Radical, the same guys who did a little something on the Time Splitter series, and should find itself hitting PlayStation 3 on May 22nd, 2008. Korn's “Haze” was written specifically for the game but also landed on the band's untitled enhanced CD released on April 21st in Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. That's one way to get it, in case you don't want to jump on the internet and download the track.

I expect other bands to follow suit, offering up tracks as menu themes and the like in the future. Sales inspired by both the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games have something to do with it, but the fact that the game compilation CDs, not to mention bands' personal albums, also sold incredibly well definitely has something to do with it. The streams seem to be crossing more and more these days but like Ghost Busters showed us, that's not always a bad thing.
