PlayStation Home, the virtual community that's set to inspire social gaming via avatars, is real. Remember that anytime you begin questioning if Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. is going to actually finish the sprawling life simulator. As further proof that PlayStation Home does exist, Sony is expanding its Closed Beta program to even more PlayStation 3 owners this summer, with PlayStation Home Open Beta starting in the Fall.

“We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today,” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PLAYSTATION Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation® tradition.”

Look, Kaz, we love you, but just give us in-game XMB and a little tidbit of PlayStation Home and we'll be happy.

The PlayStation Home Open Beta that starts up in the Fall will focus on Home's community gaming features, like connecting to Home from PlayStation games and showcasing in-Home areas dedicated to specific games.

When we get more details about both the PlayStation Home Closed Beta expansion and the PlayStation Home Open Beta, we'll be sure to let you know.
