Namco Bandai loves its samurai so much that they've snatched up the rights to bring Afro Samurai to the PlayStation 3 this fall. Gamers take on the role of Afro as he searches for his father's murderer and holder of the coveted number one headband. Based on the animated series starring and co-produced by Samuel L. Jackson, Afro Samurai is a blend of east and west, with hip hop and technology mixing with traditional Japanese cultural overtones and cinematic flair.
“Afro Samurai’s unique mash-up of urban hip hop culture with traditional Japanese aesthetics and innovative combat mechanics provides a fresh new approach to the action adventure genre,” said Todd Thorson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for NAMCO BANDAI Games America. “Afro Samurai delivers an episodic experience with addictive, immersive and compelling gameplay that’s literally dripping in style.”
Afro Samurai follows the plot of the series original storyline, with enough added extras to satisfy new and old fans alike. It mixes some of the most striking art seen in anime today, bringing back Sam Jackson as the voice of Afro and Ninja Ninja to lend the game that needed attitude. Open environments litter Afro Samurai, as gamers traverse the world thwarting enemy AI, which moves to the beat of the RZA of Wu-tang Clan fame produced music score.
Namco Bandai hasn't announced an official release date but look out for this one in the fall.
