Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) will debut its redesigned PlayStation One to North America for a price that may make you reconsider the Baby-station come this September. According to the folks at IGN.com, the PlayStation One may retail for $79 in North America, $20 less than its current price, and alot lower than the Sega Dreamcast's current price.

SCEA has yet to officially announce the U.S. price and didn't want to comment on the rumors. But as seen in the pat, Sony has pretty much been the first to drops their console prices, with Nintendo following, and you shouldn't expect any less this time around. The latest rumors say that Sega is having problems getting the okay from the suits to lower the price of the Dreamcast to $149 as it planned for quite some time ago. Sega of Japan isn't making any money, which makes officials hesitant to lower prices in the only market they are making any money.

With 27 million units already installed in homes across the North American continent, Sony wants as many as three to five million more by the end of the fiscal year (March 31, 2000). The lower price would be happen right before the holidays, and will give Sony the upper hand during the holiday buying season with choices at different prices. Consumers at the with more money to spend will most likely the more purchase a PlayStation 2 (at $299), but those with less affordable income will be perfectly happy with the $79 PlayStation One. Sony seems to have set up the perfect line up for the holiday season by rounding out the bases withh the new cheaper videogames (from $29 to as low as $9)
