[Gone Gold] March 19th, 2008

Warriors run amok.
Author: Warren Stallworth
Published: March 19, 2008
For the uninitiated, a game going gold means it's effectively done. The final version of the code has been pressed to a master disc (back in the day it was actually gold colored, hence the name) and has been sent off to be mass produced (pending a final screening, test and approvals process from the big three, mind you). In most cases, this means the game will be hitting stores in a matter of weeks, so to keep you abreast of when things are hitting, we'll plug it in here, possibly throwing in a quote or two if a publisher is feeling especially verbose.

And now, for this week's fun:

[PlayStation Portable]

[Warriors Orochi]
KOEI is all over gold status. Every week they have something new and this week isn't any different. Fresh out of the oven, KOEI has announced that Warriors Orochi has finally reached gold status and will release on March 25, 2008.

The Serpent King Orochi has descended from the heavens and used his otherworldly powers to shatter time and space and kidnapping the best warriors from across ancient China and Japan in the process. His reason? To test them. Warriors Orochi finds characters from both Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors teaming up to wage war against powerful forces they couldn't hope to fight alone. 79 playable characters are stuffed in the game, along with Team Battle Systems and Weapon Fusion. Massive battlefields also make the game as well as 2-player co-op via wireless ad-hoc.

[PlayStation 2]

[Obscure: The Aftermath]
Unrequited love and survival horror are colliding on the PlayStation 2 and there's nothing you can do about it. At least not until Obscure: The Aftermath hits stores, and that won't be long now. The game will see a release on March 25th, 2008 for $19.99.

For those who hadn't played the original sleeper-hit, a rambunctious group of teenagers (isn't it always) gets wrapped up in what can only be described as a mind-altering situation when a hallucinogenic flower begins warping the high school student body into monsters. Fast forward a few years and the survivors from the first are now off to college at Fallcreek University. Little do they know that the horror of what happened in high school is far from over. A strange black flower has begun springing up all across campus and, as we all know when it comes to the horror genre, history is bound to repeat itself.

The game is heavily inspired by teen horror movies and features mind-bending puzzles, 2-player co-op, and a soundtrack that's sure to get the kids' heads bobbing. Of course all of this falls under the “M” for Mature moniker. Imagine that.
