There's just not enough mud, dirt, desert action in racing games today. They all lack that special kind of finesse that really puts you in the action. Far too often, bullshots and pre-rendered videos run rampant, with the actual gameplay falling far below the bullshot representation. Well, THQ is hoping to remedy that with a little title called BAJA for the PlayStation 3. Since it's being made by the same guys who made MX vs ATV, they might know a little something about this genre and ways to possibly correct its disheartening trend.

“As the long-standing off-road racing leader, THQ is thrilled to bring something completely new to the off-road racing genre,” said Richard Browne, vice president of product development, THQ. “With the level of detail in each vehicle, the vast open vistas and the most realistic off-road physics to date, BAJA will provide an unparalleled racing experience.”

Well, all right then. BAJA has players racing some 40 vehicles in eight different classes, including 4x4s, buggies, and Trophy Trucks. There are hundreds of upgradeable parts, as well as various modes to conquer. THQ is also promising races that could last up to four hours. We'll have to put them to the test on that one but with 12 player online and multiple LAN setups, they might need to use all of the Blu-ray real estate they can.

There's currently no release date set, so keep your eyes peeled for this one.
