Video Games Live Concert Hopes to Change Perceptions

The only problem is the location.

Trying to change the perception of video games is hard work. There are people who think anything they want, even when evidence to the contrary is put before them. Gaming is a new medium and it will take years before it's accepted as anything other than a minor diversion or waste of time because of this. But that doesn't mean people won't stop trying to change that perception.

Video Games Live, which is an immersive concert event where orchestras perform video game songs alongside footage of the games, is hoping it can bring the artistic side of gaming to the forefront and break through the culturally stifling barriers that prohibits the general public from seeing the beauty of video gaming. The only problem is the location they've chosen to do this in.

On March 15, Video Games Lives will be performing at the 7000+ seat Plaza de Toros Calafia Bullring in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. The orchestra this time around is the Ensamble de Jóvenes Orchestra and Choir. The location? GamaCon '08, a video game, anime, cosplay, and comic book convention. I'm thinking there won't be any need to change perceptions at that convention.

"We're so proud and honored to be performing our show to so many people in Mexico," said Video Games Live co-creator & conductor Jack Wall.  "It's really great to see this kind of excitement around the world for what we're doing."

"So many people in Mexico have been looking forward to Video Games Live,” Event promoter Hugo Castro added, “the enthusiasm for this event has been like nothing we've ever seen before."

Video Games Live has more than 50 shows scheduled for 2008, so chances are they'll be playing in a city near you. If you want to see them, though, you might want to jump on it, as they have a tendency to sale out every single place they play. You can find tour dates at http://www.videogameslive.com/index.php?s=dates.

If all of this sounds the least bit boring, look at it this way: this could be your chance to take that special someone you've been eyeing out to a symphony to show them you're culturally sound without being bored out of your mind. You know the games and you know the songs, now share them with someone else.
