There's been something missing on consoles lately. With all the epic games coming out for PlayStation 3, you'd think there would be some great hack-and-slash on the console, but one has yet to present itself. Looks like SouthPeak Games heard our cries. The company is set to release X-Blades, a third-person hack-and-slash title, for PlayStation 3 and PC in late 2008.
The game finds players controlling an anime-style heroine that using whatever she can to destroy everything in her path, with a cinematic flair to boot. At this early juncture, the game looks impressive, though it won't put anything Sony and 2nd Party developers have to shame.
"The unique anime backdrop combined with the high-octane gameplay really takes X-Blades into brand new territory," Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak Games said, describing the game. "This genre needs a fresh take and this game delivers."
Ayumi, the beautiful star of the game, explores the game's world, doing battles with demonic enemies using her pistol blades, acrobatic abilities and magic spells to help her advance. The story is revealed with full anime cut scenes, though its unknown how those cut scenes will unfold or what they will reveal.
"We are big fans of anime and that was really our inspiration for X-Blades," said James Seaman, Managing Director at TopWare Interactive. "Our goal was to create stylistic characters and artwork, and mix that with lightning fast action. The result is a killer title that gamers and animation fans won't be able to put down."
Hopefully they spend as much time on the gameplay, story, and game flow as they do the graphics. SouthPeak promises to disclose more about the game soon. Let's hope that means a playable demo of some kind.
