The Velvet Assassin Sabotages Replay Studios
The name change game
Published: February 29, 2008
What's in a name change? Everything, according to Replay Studios. Along with their publisher, Gamecock Media Group, the developer announced the official name change for 'Velvet Assassin', their upcoming stealth-action game formerly know as 'Sabotage'. Based on the real life hero Violette Szabo, a woman who championed sabotage, the game is hoping to change the way players approach the stealth-action genre later this year.
"Rather than a trite, overused, and generic working title like 'Sabotage,' 'Velvet Assassin' captures the heart of what we're trying to accomplish," Sascha Jungnickel, Creative Director at Replay Studios, explained. "From the start we've wanted a game with a strong female lead that stays true to the history of Violette Szabo while pulling players into a world of dark intrigue."
The game, inspired by British Agent Violette Szabo's real life story, follows Violette Summer as she risks her life to fell the Third Reich during the Nazi occupation of Europe. Trapped behind enemy lines, she must use everything in her power to bring down the German war machine, one mission at a time. Without the backing or support of the British government, she's forced to use everything at her disposal to accomplish her mission. At this early stage, the game mixes very Splinter Cell-esque graphics with a stealth combat system that promises to be ground breaking upon its release.
"Most of the time a name change happens because it's not 'catchy' enough or because the marketing team didn't like it," said Tim Hesse, Executive Producer at Gamecock Media Group. "I have to say, the Replay crew have outdone themselves by making Violette into one of the best looking stealth-killers ever. This game has come so far since last year that Sabotage just didn't do the game justice – 'Velvet Assassin' sums up every aspect that makes this game great."
Velvet Assassin is set to release in the Fall of 2008, with a March 6th showing at Gamecock's EIEIO.
