[Gone Gold] November 26th

Just the one, we reckon.

As we enter the busiest time of the year, the unholy juggernaut that is the 4th Quarter lineup, many games will be announced as having "gone gold," so many, in fact, that we might just get away with being extra lazy and lumping them all into a story at the end of the week.

For the uninitiated, a game going gold means it's effectively done. The final version of the code has been pressed to a master disc (back in the day it was actually gold colored, hence the name) and has been sent off to be mass produced (pending a final screening, test and approvals process from the big three, mind you). In most cases, this means the game will be hitting stores in a matter of weeks, so to keep you abreast of when things are hitting, we'll plug it in here, possibly throwing in a quote or two if a publisher is feeling especially verbose.

And now, for this week's fun:

[PlayStation 3]
[Unreal Tournament III] | Release: December 10th
Okay, so technically this game went gold last week and even had a preliminary street date, but it wasn't until today that the final release date was confirmed by Midway. So there you have it, all of the awesomeness of Epic's premiere first-person shooter series, all running on a sexy, sexy optimized version of the Unreal Engine 3, on the PS3, running at a silky framerate and filled to the gills with pew pew action, all ready to rock come next month. Happy dance time!

Publishers: Want to make sure we've got your games in our Gone Gold blurbs? Just kick over those press releases or a note from the team to GoneGold@TotalPlayStation.com and we'll make sure they get tossed into the rotation.
