It's Official: DivX is Coming to PS3
Straight from the horse's mouth, folks; it's real.

Ever since someone leaked a picture from the Home beta showing a DivX logo down in the corner of a trailer, there's been speculation -- nay hope -- that Sony would be adding support for the codec down the line. Not only does DivX churn out fantastic quality videos at relatively low file sizes, but it supports streaming of hi-def content at speeds far, far better than some other formats -- so much so that we experimented with encoding some of our videos.
Well, the word has finally come in: DivX will be added to the PS3... well, soon, we hope.
“We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3,” squealed Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. “Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format.”
So, uh, there ya go.
