[E3 2007] Post-conference Wrap Up
Published: July 11, 2007
Wow, talk about news! Sony delivered a strong presentation, several games and exclusivity deals were announced, and we finally got some long awaited fresh media. It's all kind of overwhelming, so we don't blame you for wanting a condensed version -- and that's where this wrap up comes in. We learned of a newer PSP which is thinner, weighs 33% less, and boasts a longer battery life. Not only that, consumers will be able to choose between Ice Silver or Piano Black coloring options. A Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron bundle set to launch in October was also announced. The core PSP has been dropped to $169.99, and the new PSP will be in stores this September. And the 80GB PS3 that we recently learned about? It'll be coming down the pipe in August.
The Playstation Network is said to have 80 downloadable games by March, and one of those was put on display for the first time: Echochrome. It sort of looks like a mix of an Escher painting and the PSP game Mercury. Not losing any momentum during the presentation, Sony went on to say that SOCOM Confrontation and Wipeout HD are also destined to end up on the PSN in the near future.
Folks working at developer NCsoft, maker of City of Heroes and the Lineage series, were announced to now have sworn loyalty to the Playstation 3: none of the other consoles will be seeing content from the talented studio. HAZE was announced as a timed exclusive, as was the upcoming Unreal Tournament 3 which will be optimized for the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4, exclusive to the PS3, will be appearing in early 2008 -- or so they say. The trailer was 7 minutes long and it looked great, but Kojima told us that we'll have to wait until the Tokyo Game Show in September to see some actual gameplay.
Silent Hill 5 was later announced by Konami at their press conference, although it is not being developed by Konami. Instead, The Collective will be taking the reigns for Silent Hill's foray into next-gen. Uncharted, which is said to have over 3,000 animations, also had its own turn in the spotlight on the 4 monstrous screens above the stage. Gran Turismo Prologue and Infamous, a sandbox game from Suckerpunch Studios, were also announced. And to top it all off, Killzone 2 looks damn close to the CGI trailer of E3 2005 -- but don't take our word for it, check out the video we've uploaded.
We still have plenty of new media and news to bring to you in the coming days, it's almost as if there's too many games -- but we all know that there is no such thing.
