Firmware Version 2.0 Livvvvvves!
It's time to find out what all the hoo-hah with browsing the Internet on your PSP is really about.
Published: August 24, 2005
Ok, we know, we know: you've got yourself a PSP, have already completed every last bit in handful of decent games on the system, and now find yourself simply staring at that sexy brick collecting dust in the corner of your room. Well no more! ...that is to say, there's new reason to pick up your PSP once more, even if it isn't to play the latest gem.
Just what are we talking about, you ask? Why, it's firmware version 2.0, the PlayStation Portable's latest and undoubtedly most significant upgrade, due in no small part to a new fully-accessible Internet browser. Utilizing the PSP's Wi-Fi capabilities, the browser allows for you take advantage of local Internet Access Points (though we call 'em "hot spots") to instantaneously surf the web.
"The Internet browser and other added functionality of the firmware 2.0 upgrade will further enhance the user experience beyond the unprecedented portable to entertainment already provided by PSP," recites Andrew House, executive vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "By allowing consumers to wirelessly surf the Web, personalize their PSP and access and share new audio, video and image formats, PSP continues to evolve the entertainment experience out of the home and reaffirm its position as the must-have product of the year."
Other nifty v2.0 features include MP4 and WAV audio playback support, customizable color themes, and... well, we'll leave it to this informative list that we totally didn't copy and paste out of a SCEA press release to tell you the rest.

-- "Go To" function added as a UMD(TM) Video playback feature that allows users to watch a movie at any point of time.

-- AVC added as a codec that can be played under [Video]. Applies to video data saved on Memory Stick(TM).

Additional Features:

-- Korean added as an optional system language.
-- Input modes added to the On-screen Keyboard allowing users to activate special characters for certain languages.
The firmware 2.0 upgrade requires 16MB of free space on your memory stick to be successfully downloaded, and when installing it, be sure to have the AC adaptor handy and your PSP decently charged. Enjoy!
