The house that Sonic built isn't waiting till E3 to show all their wares.

May brings with it two things: many, many hours of lost sleep and hangovers for games editors, and the motherlode of info when it comes to what's next and what's coming in the next few years. As the years have gone on, though, the slow trickle of info that eventually leads to a flood a day or two before the show starts has slowly started creeping earlier and earlier into the year. Pre-E3 events and early company announcements of titles have begin hitting months before the show itself starts.

On the one hand, it makes our jobs a whole lot easier, and it helps companies punch their titles above the sea of announcements made during the show. We rather like what SEGA's doing this year. They've decided to milk their string of releases leading up to the show, doling out bite-sized chunks of next-gen deliciousness.

This self-appointed "Road to E3" is meant to showcase not only the in-house stuff from established studios like Sonic Team and AM2, but recent purchases of developers like Secret Level, The Creative Assembly and Sports interactive.

"Recent additions to our organization in the form of strong developers have expanded upon SEGA's next-gen development prowess," glowed Scott A. Steinberg, VP of Marketing at SEGA of America. "Our 2006 E3 line-up clearly shows that SEGA's commitment to challenging creative and technological boundaries has never been stronger."

The first news will arrive as of midnight tonight, and SEGA is promising plenty more where that came from. Expect us to pounce on any updates the second they roll in.

Feast your eyes on the first announcement: Virtua Tennis 3.
