Epic Games has got one coveted piece of technology on its hands. Heck, we wouldn’t be surprised if after witnessing the jaw-dropping Unreal Tournament 2007 trailer in motion this past E3, the creative game minds hastily reached for their notepads to scrawl in a “note to self: GET UNREAL 3 ENGINE”
Hey, it could happen.
Nevertheless, even if next-gen companies weren’t wetting their pants at the marvels of the Unreal 3 Engine, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume they’ve considered cashing in on its potential. THQ is officially one of them, as the worldwide publisher/developer has entered into an agreement with Epic to get its mitts on the state-of-the-art technology.
"Unreal Engine 3 is widely regarded as a premier next-generation engine technology," noted Jack Sorensen, executive vice president of worldwide studios, THQ. "We plan to complement our own proprietary engines with the Unreal Engine technology to create truly innovative gameplay experiences on both next-gen consoles and Windows PC."
"In the past few years, THQ has built one of the strongest development organizations in the industry," complimented Mark Rein, vice president, Epic Games. "We're thrilled that their teams will be utilizing Unreal Engine 3 in some of their upcoming projects. We can't wait to see what our technology will enable in their future releases."
You and us both, Mark. We’ll be sure to report back once we find out just what THQ is up to with that sexy new engine on their hands.
