Comic convention + live video game music = nerdgasm.

We may not have been entirely fair to Video Games Live in the past, but then that was because we weren't sure what kind of future it had. After getting cancelled due to low ticket sales, then coming back to finish up the West Coast part of the tour, we were cautiously optimistic about the "big plans" the show's staff were proposing.

Turns out it was bigger than we could have ever guessed.

See, there are few things as intrinsically linked as comics and video games -- at least in terms of the core demographic -- and uniting the VGL mix of live orchestral performances, stage show and purdy lights with one of comicdom's biggest conventions is, well, genius.

“Video Games Live brings an incredibly exciting and unique element to our events which our attendees will be certain to appreciate and enjoy,” cheesed Gareb Shamus, Wizard Conventions' Chairman and CEO. “Video gaming has become an important part of today’s culture and by adding Video Games Live to our already impressive line-up of Wizard World activities, it furthers our reputation as the number one pop-culture show in the country.”

"I’ve been a personal fan of the Wizard brand magazines and conventions for a very long time. To be working with them on bringing our concert to thousands of fans is a dream come true”, geeked Tommy Tallarico, co-creator of Video Games Live. "Comic books, anime, action figures and video games all go hand in hand. Wizard Entertainment understands, promotes and respects all of these forms of entertainment. We couldn’t ask for a more appropriate partner.”

Given that most of us in the office nerdy enough to admit that we love Wizard have been fans for years, this is very, very good news indeed. And, well, it should go without saying that we're a bit fond of video game music. The VGL show will take place on Saturday, August 5th in Chicago. Ticketmaster has your tickets, and they'll run you as little as $20 and top out at $55.
