Spec Ops: The Line Storms Onto Shelves This June
What a strange, strange road.
Published: February 21, 2012
Spec Ops: The Line was announced way, way back on December 12, 2009. It was supposed to come out last year and a trailer showed the date of November 22 as a possible date. Well, that came and went and still there was no Spec Ops: The Line.
Our very own Aram has been looking forward to the title and has died a little with every missed deadline. Now he feels quite vindicated to hear that Spec Ops: The Line will be releasing on June 26 and he can finally get his hands on this thing. Not only that, but we also got some details about the game and a special upgrade to the game's limited edition.
The Line's single player takes place in Dubai, which was recently destroyed. It has fallen due to a series of cataclysmic sandstorms. Playing as Captain Martin Walker, the third person shooter focuses heavily on its barren backdrop and the tragedy surrounding it. Players fight through the city in search of Colonel John Konrad and his missing battalion, The Damned 33rd. Hopefully the name isn't an indicative of their predicament.
“Spec Ops: The Line is 2K Games’ first foray into the military shooter genre,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “We’ve created a unique game that explores the dark realities of war and places players in difficult situations where the line between right and wrong becomes increasingly blurred as players fight to survive.”
In addition to the single player, the game will come with class-based mutliplayer. If you pre-order the game you'll get some sweet perks with the game's Premium Edition at no extra charge:
- Twice the amount of experience points will be awarded during the first week of play, enabling gamers to expedite character ranking;
- The AK-47 weapon will unlock at rank one;
- The “Officer Class” will unlock at rank one. This character class includes several team-based advantages, such as reducing damage to teammates and increasing the effectiveness of other classes;
- Access to the “FUBAR Pack,” which contains exclusive accessories allowing players to customize their characters with unique and visually distinctive items.
“We’re delighted to officially announce the first details about the multiplayer in Spec Ops: The Line,” said Denby Grace, senior producer at 2K Games. “In addition, people who pre-order the game are going to have an immediate advantage in the multiplayer mode.”
Check back for more information leading up to the game's release. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to stop Aram from bouncing off the walls. Below we have a trailer detailing the bonuses in motion.
