Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Elite Season Content Coming Soon

You ARE Elite, right?

Did you shell out the big bucks for the Hardened edition of Modern Warfare 3? If you did, you might have noticed a little card in there that gave you a years access to the "Elite" content for the game. If you have been following close, you may have already been hanging out at their website checking out whatever nonsense is there (if it is working). But now shit is about to get serious, as the REAL Elite content starts rolling out at the end of the month.

Yes, lucky Xbox owners get it sooner, but we still get it on the PS3, The first month of the nine month season will start on February 28th and with it will come two big new pieces of content. What the other months will bring remains to be seen, but as long as you are ELITE, all of it will be completely, 100% totally free (well, if you don't count the premium you paid to get that special edition).

It all starts with Elite Drop 1: Liberation, which purports to be a vast landscape in Central Park (ahh NYC!) perfect for everyone's favorite douchebag, the long range sniper! Apparently it is also good for LMGs, which I guess means they are those sniper LMGs from Battlefield Bad Company 2 or something. The map will also feature a bunker on either end of the map with mounted turrets to lay down withering fire. Right up until the douchebag snipers pick you off 2 seconds after you get in it.

That's not all though! We also will see Elite Drop 2: Piazza, in many ways the polar opposite of Liberation. A small seaside village rife with blind corners and twisty passages is a haven for close combat masters and douchebag shotgun slingers. The action goes vertical too, so make sure you keep an eye on the sky so no one gets the drop on you.

We still have mixed feeling about all the new ways Activision is finding to monetize the series and suck cash from you constantly between the already closely packed retail releases in the series. More content is always great, but putting out so much of it that will fracture the player base unless they have it all leaves a sour taste in our mouths, and we can't help but wonder how much of this content would be freely included in the base game in the days before DLC. It's moot now, but still...

You can be sure we will take a close look at these new settings when the content drops at the end of the month, so check back if you need to know more!
