Soul Calibur V Arrives - With Special Soundtrack!

One word, two words, who cares? It's here, now with bonus Jesper Kyd!

Look, we're stubborn bastards around here at TPS, and when Namco Bandai Games first showed us the game, we're pretty sure it was two words, and since changing it now would wreck the crap out of our URL where the few bits of traffic we get might still trickle in, we're sticking to our guns here.

Plus, it's a moot point; Soulcalibur V (if you want to spell it like the man says you should) has shipped to stores, so you can call it whatever you want, just so long as you give it a looksee. Our own Scott Rodgers is doing just that, having plowed through the bulk of the offline gameplay (including the new Critical Edge and Quick Move additions) and has moved on to spanking people online using the new character creator and the creation hub known only as Global Colosseo. Yeah, buddy, let that name bounce around in your head as if uttered by Zeus himself.

Ah, but as if that weren't enough, the good folks at Creative Intelligence Arts are prepping a soundtrack, and it's got something a little special for those that opt to get the physical version directly from them: a special remix of Jesper Kyd's Assassin's Creed II theme for Ezio (who, as you probably know from that preview we mentioned earlier is playable in the game).

The Limited Edition soundtrack spans a whopping 3 CDs of music, comprised of 56 tracks and over two hours of cinematic backing and battle themes, plus a 20 page set of liner notes and a bonus behind-the-scenes DVD showcasing the collaborative process behind CIA's attempts to bring the game's music to life. Throw in a couple character cards to show off the new Soulcalibur V characters and you have something rather nifty.

Oh, but there's more. See, CIA founder Hiroaki Yura isn't just someone who enjoys music, he plays violin too, and worked with Dan Sistos on guitars, Tal Bergman on drums, and Mari Yoshida and Melissa R. Kaplan lending their voices to Kyd's live remix performance. To hear him say it, ol' Jesper was pretty cool with it.

"It is an honor to be the composer for Assassin's Creed and I am thrilled to share this remix of my music with Soulcalibur fans," gushed an enthusiastic Kyd. "The new mix has been specially arranged and recorded exclusively for the unique gameplay of Soulcalbur while maintaining the essential instrumentation and melodic theme of "Venice Rooftops," which I composed for the character Ezio Auditore in Assassin's Creed II. I hope Assassin's Creed and Soulcalibur fans alike will enjoy the excitement of playing the ultimate Master Assassin when they hear Ezio's battle theme in Soulcalibur V!"

Oh, we will Jesper. We will.
