Mass Effect 3 Demo Gets Dated
The Reapers are coming, but you and Shepard can get a jump on 'em February 14th.

Ah, Valentine's Day. It's that special time of year when you and your special someone can get together and romance each other until the break o' dawn. Or do dinner. Or exchange gifts like diamonds or whatever it is rich people with way too much money and a gullibility for jewelry store commercials do. For us broke, loveless gamers, though, this year it's more than just another day, it's a chance to completely empty our bank accounts in the pursuit of quite a few new games.
Not only does February 14th play host to a new way to beat the crap out of someone and/or blow 'em to smithereens, but it'll serve as the release date for the Mass Effect 3 demo. Now, if you've been reading TPS lately (and of course you have, you're our favorite reader! Yes, you!), you'll know that EA whipped up a swanky little crossover between ME3 and the already-released Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo. Play both demos and they'll unlock exclusive items in each other's full-blown games, letting you get a jump on things from the second you fire up your full-blown purchase.
We were frankly rather pleasantly surprised by how meaty the Reckoning demo was, and upon firing it up, we were rewarded with some items (including some for Reckoning proper) without actually having to finish the demo. Here's to hoping the ME3 demo will be as meaty, but it certainly sounds like BioWare is prepping something with heft, not only allowing players to imbibe the opening moments of the Reaper's attack on Earth, but dipping into the co-op gameplay as well. Single-player and co-op? Yeah, we're cool with that and we're not the only ones.
"We are excited to be able to give gamers an expansive demo that will put them right on the front lines of this all-out galactic war," squealed an excited Casey Hudson, the ME series' Executive Producer. "The entire scale of the game is bigger than anything we’ve ever done. With its intense action, deep customization and raw emotional power, [i]Mass Effect 3[i] will deliver a spectacular action RPG experience to fans of the series and newcomers alike."
Get ready, kids, the battle to save Earth kicks off in earnest on March 6th. If you haven't seen the unlockable items for both games in motion, behold this handy little trailer:
