MonkeyPaw Squares Off with Galaxy Fight
A fighter with scrolling... forever? Oh yes, we're down with this.

For as far as games have come since the days of Pong, it seems we're forever stuck to some of the most unlikely of limitations. Quite a few games early on attempted to do away with the idea of barriers; a game like Asteroids understood that the fixed edges of a screen were merely a limitation of presentation and sought to undo it by letting movement wrap around the edges, while games like Time Pilot did away with the idea of borders at all and would simply scroll forever. And yet, here we are, playing games in worlds where invisible walls hamper exploration at every turn.
But when Japanese developer Sunsoft set out to create a new kind of fighter back in the PS one days, they were truly thinking outside the box. With that in mind, our good friends over at MonkeyPaw Games are set to unleash Galaxy Fight on European PSN goers, but we'll let them explain things.
"Galaxy Fight is one of those games where you'll stand back and admire some of the 'firsts' that developer Sunsoft pulled off. Fighting game fans will truly appreciate the impact the game had in the mid-90s," explains MonkeyPaw Prez John Greiner. "The 'endless platform' showcases just how innovative this retro fighting game was and we're proud to bring the title to European gamers for the first time."
Yeah, you read that right, it's a fighting game with infinite scrolling -- not exactly something we see these days, but then that's sort of the beauty of all these retro releases MonkeyPaw is hooking all of us (well, all of us living in Europe anyway) up with. It's such a generous move it makes us end our sentences with a preposition! Ignore that, though, and enjoy MonkeyPaw's breakdown of what makes Galaxy Fight so durned special.
[About Galaxy Fight]
Galaxy Fight is a 1995 fighting game that had players battling each other through a solar system, each with unique opponents inhabiting the planets. The combatants are tasked with getting to the all-mighty Felden Crais, a god of legend that appeared only once a millennium.
With eight different characters and innovative features that excluded walls in the battle stages, Galaxy Fight's unique gameplay encouraged unending battles across wonderfully detailed fighting scenery. The title was Sunsoft's first arcade fighting game, also appearing on both the Neo Geo and Sega Saturn systems.
How can you not want that?! You'll have your chance when the Euro/UK PlayStation Stores update tomorrow for the low, low price of £3.99 or €4.99, depending on your region. Check it out and tell us what you think, won't you?
