NFL Blitz Returns January 2012
I foresee many two point conversions.

After the revival of NBA Jam last year you had to figure that it was only a matter of time before we'd see a new NFL Blitz. The series is just as, if not more, beloved by fans and has probably broken more arcade machines, controllers, and psyches as any game in existence. Sure, there was Blitz: The League but that really didn't scratch the itch of suplexing your least favorite opponents.
That brings me to today's announcement for NFL Blitz. I know, they put a lot of thought into the title but still, it's a new freakin' NFL Blitz with actual players in HD. The best part is that the game will be available out of the chute as a PSN title for $14.99 this January. If only they could have had a time machine to do the same for NBA Jam's launch.
“NFL Blitz was one of the great arcade classics of the 90s, and now we’re bringing back everything fans loved at a great price, in high-definition and as a digital download,” says Cam Weber, general manager of American Football for EA Sports. “The new NFL Blitz will preserve the competitive nature of the original game, while delivering to fans the ultimate rivalry experiences online.”
Below is a list of awesome features that you can expect:
Classic Blitz Gameplay: 7-on-7, frenetic football with two minute quarters, 30 yards for a first down, no penalties, and dudes randomly bursting into flames.
Oodles of Unlockables: Though the 32 NFL teams and 31 stadiums are readily available (do the Dolphins still count as a NFL team?) there's also a treasure trove of unlockables. If it's anything like NBA Jam: On Fire Edition you can expect a whole lot of awesome.
Ultra Responsive Controls: The game will run at 60fps and the twitch controls are replicated on the Dualshock. You can tackle, dive, stiff arm, and hurdle with just the touch of a button.
Blitz Battles and Co-Op: You can head online or play locally for some 2-on-2 action. There will be local, regional, and worldwide leaderboards and if you're good enough (or get the media to love you) you might even make the Blitz Hall of Fame.
Blitz Gauntlet: The single player portion of the game will have you running through the NFL and fantasy teams. As you beat them in the Blitz Coliseum you can unlock them for use in all modes.
Elite League: This is basically the Ultimate Team mode from EA's other sports games. You can buy packs and build your roster. If you're feeling extra frisky try out the winner-takes-all Risk and Reward mode where you can put up your valuable players against someone else.
Blitz Store: This is lifted from NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, it's basically where you go to spend Blitz Bucks to unlock stuff. You can even get concept art and cheerleader pictures.
Blitz Booth Commentary: Tim Kitzrow returns once again and this time he is joined by actor Brian Haley. I think that we're in safe hands here.
Needless to say we're giddy here at TPS for this new installment. Well, at least Aram and I are and you can be sure to face off against us in January. Check back for an official release date and our review in the coming months.
