All right, so I'm looking at jumping into a new sound system setup and replacing my Altec Lansing 5.1 system that's about 8 years old with something a little less cluttered, more up to date, and much more compact. I'm interested in soundbars and I've been looking at a Sony one in particular, but I wanted to know what everyone else suggests.

I'd like to keep the price under $250 if possible. If you have fantastic ways to get money off of a $300-$400 soundbar, let me know. I'm a man of frugality.

The soundbar I'm currently looking at is:

What the... that thing looks awesome, but this is actually the first time I've ever seen or heard about a sound bar. Is it supposed to mimic having a full surround setup or something? I know we've gotten pretty advanced with stuff, but I'd be rather impressed if it could actually pump out something that really sounded like it was coming from behind me.

The Sony one not only looks cooler, it's functional on a whole other level.

If you look at some of the HTiB in the same line as that soundbar I listed, you'll see some pretty sexy devices that are all about style and bang for your buck.

I might think Sony products can be overpriced, comparatively speaking, but audio devices are always in line with the kind of quailty you're getting out of them. I owned a Sony CD player for about 8 years and that thing went through everything imaginable. Good ol' Sony.

This topic is too funny. You guys are looking at all the wrong companies for sound bars.
