The only format Sony has done decently? BluRay. One that sticks around but has clearly been dead? Memory Stick.

UMDs need to take a tip from the MiniDisc and get the hell out of our lives.

Sony was involved in the creation of the CD and DVD too, in much the same capacity as Blu-ray (which is hardly a Sony-only endeavor). They've helped crank out more than a few standards, but it's clear they still want their own formats to succeed whenever possible, and inevitably, they don't get any backing and fail. Only the ones created as part of a consortium were ever successful in the long term.

Well, Memory Sticks have actually managed to stay somewhat relevant compared to Compact Flash and SD Cards, I suppose.

Well, if I want to count whenever Sony has helped a format get developed, then yes they have been on the right side of history more than a few times. But they keep pushing formats that are essentially garbage.

Compact flash never stood a chance, but SD remains the gold standard. They need to ease development for the memory stick (well, at this rate, they should make it easier to develop for ANOTHER format) as it never seems to stick with many companies. PS3 is hard to develop for, and Sony doesn't give development studios any help. Now lets look at the Memory Stick... who actually uses it, outside of Sony?

Exactly.
